Book copyedits
My apologies if small updates like this are boring, but the book copyedits came in today and they’re all trivial. This is good. They’re things like missing periods, a few misspelled words, missing/extra hyphens (ie usage differences), and so on. I should be able to incorporate these into the manuscript today and have it back to the publisher.
I don’t expect that this will hasten publication because they have to schedule time with the printer. But I’d be happy to be wrong!
And I’ve just noticed the book price is down to $40.46 on Amazon. I wonder what their low price guarantee means for pre-orders. In particular, will Nels (the first order) get the new, lower price?
Edit 11 July 2010: Price is now $39.75, set by me. Note the new Amazon page for Just Enough Software Architecture.

Well! I am glad
Well! I am glad you asked.
Amazon has something called the “Lowest Price Guarantee” (or something like that) where they promise to give me the lowest price if the price goes down between when I order it and when it comes out. So far my credit card has not bee charged, which makes me think they’re just going to wait until it comes out and then charge me the current price at that moment.
Right
Amazon says, “Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the end of the day of the release date. “
That seems pretty clear — you get the lowest price they offer between your order and release date, even if the release price is higher. The reason I was wondering is that the discount they’re offering (33%) is pretty close to the wholesale price. (Or perhaps I’m misremembering / misinformed, and the wholesale price is a 40% discount.)
